If you’re reading this, welcome to The Weekend Sun! Thank you so much for joining along with me as I begin this journey into the unknown world of blogging. If you know me personally, thank you for your support..and if you don’t, it’s nice to unofficially meet you!
My name is Amanda Palmeri and I’m a 25 year old Human Resource Coordinator from eastern Long Island, New York. I have a wonderful family, friends and an adorable little fur baby named Buttons!
If I’m not at work or the gym, you’ll most likely find me with a hot cup of coffee and a great playlist, planning my next weekend getaway or vacation. If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I thrive on adventure and spontaneity. New places and experiences feed my soul.
I consider myself very blessed.
Okay, okay, so what does that have to do with me starting a blog, you ask??
Well, as I kissed another year goodbye and a new one rolled in, I was feeling stagnant. I found myself internally asking the same questions I have asked every year. “What can I accomplish this year that I have not already done? What’s something I’ve always wanted to try but have let fear overrule and eventually shut down?” Well, friends..this right here was one of those things.
“I can’t start a blog, it’s too embarrassing to share my personal thoughts.” “I’ll get made fun of and no one will want to follow or read along with anything I have to say anyway.” “There’s too much competition, everyone’s doing this nowadays.” “I don’t really know what I’m doing, so I won’t be successful.” “I don’t want to be like everyone else.”
I sat and thought about each of these self-proclaimed setbacks and something clicked. I realized that I’m not setting out to be like anyone else. I’m not competing with anyone else. I don’t really care too much if I’m perceived as lame or stupid for wanting to start one of these things. I like to write, so I’m going to write. Creative writing is something I’ve had a passion for since elementary school and I’m going to channel that!
I was going to take that, “Maybe I’ll try it next year” attitude and shift it to the “No, I’m going to go for this right now” attitude.
Pushing myself completely out of my comfort zone, I took to social media (like most millennials do) to ask my fellow Instagram followers what they thought of my new endeavor.
How many people would be interested in me sharing my whereabouts and travel experiences? To my alarming surprise, 76% said YES! And again, to my alarming surprise…wait, people actually said…NO! Oh gosh… abort, ABORT. A handful said no, so that means you can’t continue, Amanda.
*queue internal deliberation once more*
Realization. We are never going to make everyone happy. Not everyone is going to support another person’s happiness or passion for something. Not everyone is going to like you. Heck, sometimes people go against you just to add spice to their own life!
Here we are. We’re starting this thing.
A blog. My blog.
I have to pick a name…what do I call it? What’s my focus??
Well, after scribbling down name after name and trying to come up with something catchy that wasn’t already taken..I arrived at The Weekend Wave.
I thought about the amount of times people have told me, “You always look like you’re living the life and having fun! I live vicariously through you!” My response is always that I live for my weekends so I try and make them count.
As most of you full-time, career-driven go-getters can understand, we live life for our weekends. We wait all week for two days of relaxation. Rejuvenation. A chance to catch up on things we’ve been putting off. To slow down with our family and friends. To plan a staycation or weekend getaway.
The weekend is significant to me because it’s when I find myself doing what I enjoy. Whether it’s a grocery store run or a road trip with my best friend. I find myself reflecting and making a purposeful decision to do the things I love. I’m inspired by my weekends.
So that brought me here. I’m going to share what I’m inspired by. My weekend trips and reviews of the attractions I visit. My favorite travel destinations. The products that I swear by. Experiences that have had a lasting impression on me. Others that motivate me. The struggles and successes of being a twenty-something year old in today’s world.
I don’t claim to know what I’m doing but I’ve taken the first step by doing what I love. I encourage everyone to do the same in their own life!
I hope you follow along with me 🙂
